Arctic Age

Arctic Age  takes inspiration from Oregon Trail, combined with rougelite mechanics. You must assemble a crew and send them on a scientific expedition in the arctic ocean between Canada and Greenland.

How to play:

Health and WIllpower: Represent the physical and mental health of the characters. If either reach 0, the crew member dies.

Science and Survival: Represent the skills of the crew member. The higher they are, the more likely a relevant event will have a favorable outcome.

Every voyage you start with £250 budget, plus any budget gained on the last voyage. Crew and supply only last as long they aren't lost but upgrades last for the remainder of the game.

Each member of the crew will consume 1 food each per month. Other supplies are just gained and lost as the game goes on.

You have 6 months to travel the full 2200km distance while keeping your crew alive, else you fail and must assemble a new crew and try again.

Historical inspiration:

Many of the in-game events take direct inspiration from naval expeditions around the northern Canadian and Greenlandic coasts. The Franklin expeditions, the Björling–Kallstenius expedition, Peary and Henson's claims of reaching the pole and more.

What I didn't do:

Unfortunately I didn't have enough time this week to get nearly everything I wanted finished. The game is essentially in an incomplete draft state but hopefully is still somewhat playable. I didn't have time to include a title screen, polished UI,  many more events, relevant graphics for more events, a minimap, a tutorial and  several other features  I wanted.
